Brooklyn Best Movers

Anthony Ruggiero spent six years running crews for a citywide moving outfit that treated every certificate-of-insurance request and freight-elevator reservation as a same-day scramble — discovered live outside the building, truck double-parked, doorman shaking his head. He opened Brooklyn Best Movers in 2014 to handle the COI, the elevator reservation, and the parking plan at booking instead of the curb. Seven trucks, ten movers, fourteen people on staff.

Rather talk it through? (718) 502-7431 rings our 4th Avenue office directly, not an out-of-state call center. Send the form instead, and Gina’s the one who actually reads it — for anything bigger than a one-bedroom she’ll usually have an in-home or video walkthrough time locked in before the day’s over.

Handling The Paperwork Since 2014

The Paperwork’s Done Before The Truck Is

  • The certificate of insurance goes out at booking — not chased down the morning of, which is exactly the scramble Anthony spent six years watching happen at his old job before he started this company.
  • The freight elevator gets reserved ahead of time — Gina calls the building’s management office as soon as a move is booked, so the doorman already has your name on move day.
  • One person owns the whole calendar — Gina’s been the only one touching it since 2016, so you won’t hear a story about two crews accidentally showing up at the same building.
  • Alternate-side rules and snow emergencies get checked the night before — and you get a call if either one means the truck needs to park somewhere different than planned.
  • Local license, interstate authority — both already on file: NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection covers work inside the city, US DOT and MC authority covers anything leaving New York.

Nobody's told which app to open — some customers post to Google before the truck's even off the block, others get around to Yelp or Angi a week later. Read any of them side by side and it's the same Brooklyn crew and the same story, not a curated highlight reel.

Brooklyn Moving & Storage Lineup

Two movers for a Bushwick one-bedroom runs $145 an hour; step up to a Flatbush three-bedroom-plus and we work out a flat number at the walkthrough instead, usually landing between $1,575 and $2,300. What decides the figure is the inventory and crew size in front of us — Saturday costs the same as Tuesday. If the walkthrough turns up a building that wants a COI or an elevator slot reserved, that gets built into the quote itself, not billed once the truck’s already double-parked outside.

What Brooklyn Buildings Notice First

Why Brooklyn Keeps Booking Brooklyn Best Movers

The COI Is Handled Before You Book The Elevator

Anthony spent six years running crews for a citywide outfit that treated every certificate-of-insurance request as a same-day scramble, worked out live on the sidewalk with the truck double-parked. He started Brooklyn Best Movers in 2014 to get the paperwork sent to your building’s management office before move day, not after the crew’s already standing in the lobby.

The Freight Elevator Gets Reserved In Advance

Gina calls the super or the management office as soon as a job is booked — whatever window the building needs, whatever paperwork the doorman wants to see — so nobody’s standing in the lobby working it out on move day.

Ten Movers On Our Payroll, No Rented Crew

Gina’s coordinated the office since 2016, and Yolanda’s led her own crew since 2017. Nobody shows up rented in for the day — every set of hands on your job is on Brooklyn Best Movers’ own W-2 payroll.

The Parking Plan Is Set The Night Before

Alternate-side rules and snow emergencies can both blow up a move-day schedule with about the same notice, so the office checks both the night before and calls if the truck needs to park somewhere different than planned.

Not Something A Booking Form Can Teach You

Buildings We’ve Coordinated With For 12 Years Straight

No online quote form flags that a specific Park Slope co-op board needs 72 hours to sign off on the freight elevator, or that one DUMBO building locks its loading dock at 4pm sharp. 12 years of actually showing up to these buildings is where that comes from — who wants their own COI template, which super answers slower on a Friday, which blocks across Brooklyn and the surrounding boroughs still don’t fit a standard-size truck.

Farther Out On The BQE And The Belt

Bridges And Highways Out Of Brooklyn and the surrounding boroughs We Run Every Week

Depending on the week, that could mean the BQE toward Staten Island and New Jersey, the Belt Parkway out toward JFK and Long Island, or the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges straight into the city — with plenty of jobs never leaving our neighborhoods at all. Scheduling works the same regardless of direction: call Gina, tell her your week, and she’ll have a real answer for you — open or not — within a day or two, which beats trusting whatever an online booking widget claims is free.

In Anthony’s Own Words

Why We Handle The Paperwork Before The Truck Moves

“Six years running crews for a citywide outfit taught me exactly where that job fell apart — a COI request or a freight elevator reservation nobody had touched until move day, discovered live outside the building with the truck double-parked and a doorman shaking his head. I started Brooklyn Best Movers in 2014 to get that handled at booking, not at the curb. Gina calls the management office, I write the estimate at the walkthrough, and by the time the truck shows up, the building already knows we’re coming.”

Nailed Down At The Walkthrough

Everything Below Is Settled Before Move Day

None of this gets improvised with the crew standing in your doorway. Anthony or Marcus pins every item here down at the walkthrough, in writing, well before your load date arrives.

What You’re Actually Getting

  • The number from your walkthrough is your invoice number — nobody renegotiates once the truck’s parked outside
  • Certificate of insurance, elevator booking, whatever your super wants on file — filed with the management office days ahead, never scrambled together morning-of
  • A piano, a gun safe, anything oversized gets priced and planned for at the walkthrough instead of guessed at once it’s already on the dolly
  • Every job carries basic released-value coverage at no extra cost, and Anthony will lay out full replacement-value protection at the walkthrough if you'd rather have the higher payout ceiling
  • Crew hours and mileage are baked into the number whether the job stays inside Brooklyn or runs clear out of state
  • If the crew has to take a bed frame or sectional apart to clear a doorway, it goes back together before anyone leaves
  • We take cards, bank transfers, or checks — whichever’s easiest for you, and none of them costs extra
Coverage included — Every job carries basic released-value coverage at no extra cost, and Anthony will lay out full replacement-value protection at the walkthrough if you'd rather have the higher payout ceiling Every job across Brooklyn and the boroughs runs fully insured and bonded NYC DCWP license on file locally, plus US DOT and MC authority for anything crossing state lines — one item or a full household
Common Brooklyn Questions

Brooklyn Best Movers, Answered Plainly

What does a local move in Brooklyn actually cost per hour?
Two movers run $145 an hour, three run $190, four run $235, with $50 an hour added for each person past that. Marcus walks the apartment or brownstone in person before you book and tells you straight which crew size the job needs — a walk-up in Park Slope with three flights of stairs calls for a different crew than a ground-floor unit in Sunset Park, even at the same square footage.
Is Brooklyn Best Movers an actual moving company, or are we getting handed off to some outside crew?
Nobody outside our payroll ever touches your boxes. Anthony Ruggiero opened the company in 2014 after six years running crews for a citywide mover, and today it is seven trucks and ten movers on the floor, fourteen people counting the office — all W-2, all ours.
What is this about the paperwork being handled before the truck even shows up?
It is Anthony’s answer to a problem he watched play out for years before starting this company: certificates of insurance and freight-elevator reservations getting chased down the morning of the move instead of sorted in advance. Gina pulls the building’s requirements at booking — COI, elevator window, parking plan — so none of it is a surprise for the crew or the super on move day.
Who is actually running my crew on move day?
Yolanda Pierce has led crews here since 2017 and is on most jobs directly. When the calendar has her on a different move, she still briefs whichever chief is assigned so nothing about your job is a cold start for them.
What does it take to lock in a date?
A $175 deposit, applied straight to your final invoice rather than added on top. Call (718) 502-7431 and Gina will get the date held.
Our closing keeps slipping — can we push the date after booking?
Yes. Give Gina a reasonable heads-up before your original date and your deposit carries over to the new one at no cost. Closings and lease overlaps move around constantly in this city, so the schedule is built to bend with that.
Our new place isn’t ready yet — can you hold our stuff for a few weeks?
That comes up often enough that Anthony builds a flat monthly storage rate right into your walkthrough number, priced off how much you’re moving. And when it’s time to bring it out of storage, it’s the same guys who packed it in, not a new crew meeting your boxes for the first time.
Our block has alternate-side parking — how do you deal with that?
The office checks the alternate-side schedule for your block the night before and again the morning of, and if it means the truck needs to park somewhere different than planned, you get a call before the crew leaves the garage, not after they’re circling your street.
What if our closing date slips and we need a different day?
A few days’ notice to Gina and your slot moves with you, no charge attached. It happens often enough in this market that the schedule’s built with room for it.
What if a piece of furniture gets damaged in transit?
Every job comes with basic released-value coverage built in at no charge; if you'd rather have full replacement-value protection with a higher payout ceiling, Anthony lays that option out at the walkthrough.
Does it cost more to book us for a Saturday?
Same hourly rate any day of the week. Saturdays just book up first once moving season hits, so it’s the timing of your call that matters, not which day you pick.
Our building requires a certificate of insurance before movers can use the freight elevator — can you provide one?
Constantly, in Brooklyn co-ops and condos especially. Send Gina the building name ahead of time and she’ll have the COI plus whatever dock or elevator reservation it needs squared away well before move day.
Are you actually licensed to operate in New York City, not just a name on a truck?
We are — the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection has us on file, and anything crossing a state line runs under our own US DOT and MC authority. Gina can pull the paperwork up for you before you book, no problem.

Ready To Get The Paperwork Started Before The Truck Does? Call Or Send Your ZIPs.

A message with where you’re moving from, where you’re headed, and roughly when is enough for Anthony or Gina to call back same-day with a real number, not a guess over the phone. Say up front if a building needs a COI, an elevator needs booking, or there’s a piano or gun safe involved — that way it’s planned into the walkthrough instead of a surprise for the crew at your door.
